2015 Review of our year

Crafters on Vancouver Island, in Vancouver, and as far away as Norway continue to sew Personal Care Kits for girls and cotton dresses.  Many also knit squares for blankets, sweaters, and IZZY Dolls.  We know from seeing photos and hearing from those working in Kagera that the items are very much appreciated.

There is an urgent need for Secondary School Fees for the thousands of orphans who have been able to finish primary school, but who cannot afford the $100 fee to attend secondary school.  If you possibly can, please donate to this worthy cause to help educate young people and eliminate poverty in Kagera, Tanzania.

40-foot container en route to Kagera

The container funded by ICROSS Canada and packed by volunteers at Compassionate Resource Warehouse in Victoria left Vancouver on June 17. We give heartfelt thanks to those two charities helping the poorest of the poor in Africa, and throughout the world.

The much needed items (such as medical equipment, school supplies, treadle sewing machines, carpentry tools, clothing, and much more!) were tightly packed in the container along with all the garments that our Tumaini Crafters so lovingly create with knitting needles and sewing machines.

Visit from Tumaini’s Founder

Our founder, Dr. Susan Wilson, spent 2 very busy weekends in Oceanside helping to promote Tumaini’s charitable work in Kagera.  She met with the Tumaini Crafters, preached at St. Mary’s and at St. Edmund’s, and attended a fundraiser.  On her return trip she was able to visit Compassionate Resource Warehouse in Victoria and share her wish list for the container. Her wish list was filled and even more than she had dreamed!

How to sponsor a child

ChildSponsorshipInfo  There are many thousands of orphans needing help.  Children in Tanzania cannot go to school without a uniform.  The uniforms only cost ten dollars, but that is a huge sum when the child has absolutely nothing more than the old clothes on his or her back.  The orange-coloured clothes (as seen in photos) are the colour of the soil. If that is the only piece of clothing the child has, the soil gets ground into the cloth.

It is incredible what TUMAINI can give a child with $25 from a donor.  With that registration money the child receives 2 sets of clothing, a school uniform, books, pencils and a mosquito net.

An annual donation of $100 will give an orphan the chance to go to school, to have food, clothing, health support and improved housing.  Tumaini Fund Canada wishes to thank all those sponsors who have responded to the need to improve the lives of the orphans.
