We take electricity and light for granted

The orphans are unable to do homework in their homes after doing their chores. A gift of a solar lamp makes a world of difference and gives hope for a brighter future  which education can offer.  The solar panel from the lamp is taken to school and placed in a window for recharging. Please consider giving a donation for a solar lamp.  With many thanks on behalf of the orphans.  Solar lamp appeal

In memory of Shirley Picard, a wonderful Crafter

Tumaini Fund Canada is sad at the passing of good friend and gifted Crafter, Shirley Picard, who made countless dresses, boys’ shorts, sweaters, toques, and Personal Care items for the orphans in Kagera. Her lovely smile and helpfulness will be missed by all who volunteered with her.

Read our 2018 news about Tumaini Fund Canada

We are looking forward to hearing first-hand from Tumaini’s founder and CEO, Dr. Susan Wilson, MBE when she visits Nanoose Bay near the end of June 2018. Tumaini is definitely making a difference in the lives of about 25,000 in Kagera.  With the help of donations for school uniforms, school supplies, bicycles, clothing, food, housing, and clean water some of the orphans have now progressed through the education system and will be studying in 2-year college diploma courses.  Tumaini is thankful for the support and for the dedication of all those who work on behalf of the orphans and desperately poor families in Kagera, Tanzania.                       Please read our status update.        STATUS Update SUMMER 2018

NEWS of those affected by the grenade / THANK YOU for your donations

Your donations for the children affected by the grenade blast in Kagera have made a difference, thank you!

“Primary class walls blown out by grenade blast at Kihinga primary school #Kagera deadly impact of blast very clear this week: Let’s keep working to rebuild classroom & support the children here.”

“Moved beyond words by children’s joy as uniforms, school bags & support reach these little ones caught in grenade blast.

“Huge thanks to everyone who donated after Kihinga tragedy.”

The Board of Directors of Tumaini Fund Canada

MANY THANKS TO OUR DONORS

The Board of Directors of Tumaini Fund Canada sincerely thanks all the donors who responded to the appeal to help the injured children and expresses thanks to all who gave to the Christmas appeal. A wire transfer was sent to Kagera two weeks before Christmas and will make a big difference in the lives and health of the children. Thank you for your donations for the purchase of medical supplies, for helping many go to school, and for supplying treadle sewing machines for the new tailoring school.

Our wish for 2018 is that the orphans and our donors and families will have safe, happy, and healthy lives.

URGENT NEED to help INJURED CHILDREN

Sadly 5 children were killed and 43 injured by a grenade which had been found in the bush and which had been taken to school.  The children live in an area where Tumaini has been distributing grain due to drought and famine.  Tumaini staff have given blood for transfusions, but the hospital didn’t even have enough bed linen or bandages for all these casualties. These dear children aged 6-8 have no hope of immediate or medium-term support except from Tumaini.  Please help by making a donation, if you are able.  Thank you.

Please help in the fight against poverty and starvation

             The Children are Dying

           (tune: Sweet Betsy from Pike)

Here in this world we’re white, yellow, or black

Could be born in a mansion or it could be a shack

We take life for granted and think it’s our right

To have full employment and to sleep well at night

But do we consider the rest of the folk

The ones who are desperate, hungry, or broke

The folks who are living away over there

In fact now I wonder if even we care

The babies are starving and many will die

While mothers and fathers just stand there and cry

To them this is hell, a land of torment

I am sure this is not what the Good Father meant

He gave us this earth to have and to share

Now what shall we do for the poor over there

Have we grown so complacent we just don’t know why

The parents are weeping as their children die

Words by Lloyd M. Rickard & daughter Sherry Ann Rickard

It is hoped that these words will touch your hearts!
